Horse Therapy and Mission Work

Aldersgate's June offerings, more than $3,000, will benefit Hope Reins - https://hopereins.org/ - a local organization that provides horse therapy for children.

Our partial May offerings of $2,500 went to the N.C. Conference Conference Mission Endowment Fund, which provides seed funds for local United Methodist churches in our conference who are doing good mission work.

All of Aldersgate's Sunday offerings benefit charitable organizations, and members of Evergreen UMC also contribute.

April Offerings benefit Orange County Rape Crisis Center

During April, Aldersgate raised $3,585 to benefit the Orange County Rape Crisis Center. A representative will join us for worship on Sunday, June 10, to receive the check and to tell us about the good things this organization is doing in our community. Check them out on-line -- http://ocrcc.org/.

To re-cap our giving during 2018, Aldersgate raised $3,205 for TABLE Inc. during February; and we raised $3,444 during March to establish a fund through the Estes Hills Elementary School PTA to help students, families, and staff during crisis. Our May offerings of $2,500 will benefit the North Carolina Conference (of The United Methodist Church) Mission Endowment Fund.

Aldersgate-Chapel Hill sold our property in January, 2018, and we live off the investment. This means that 100 percent of our Sunday offerings benefit local needs/organizations doing good work in our community.

Come see what the Spirit is doing among us!

What's Next

Evergreen UMC
Aldersgate UMC of Chapel Hill is moving again! This time, we will relocate to Evergreen UMC, 11098 US Hwy. 15-501 N. in Chapel Hill. We will be two churches worshiping together. You read correctly -- together. At the same time. In the same sanctuary.

This "new thing" got started back in January, right around the time Aldersgate completed the sale of our former property. Evergreen contacted Pastor Cheryl and asked her to come talk to their church about the discernment process Aldersgate had just gone through. She did, and we discovered our two churches are similar in many ways, and not just that we both have a bunch of crazy UNC fans. Things kept falling into place in certain ways (a God thing, we think), and the next thing we knew, we were asking for "official" permission to become two churches under one roof, sharing worship, bible study, fellowship, and mission. We got that permission even though the churches are in different districts. Both churches also gave their blessing.

Pastor Cheryl of Aldersgate and Pastor Julie of Evergreen will remain as pastors. The churches will begin worshiping together on Sunday, May 6, at 10:30 a.m.

Our Sunday worship services will be an innovative combination of the best of "dinner church" and traditional worship. We'll get going each Sunday with prayer, coffee, and singing. Brief sermons will be followed by Q&A and conversation with the congregation. We'll celebrate Holy Communion every Sunday.  Lunch will follow worship twice a month.

Aldersgate's Thursday afternoon bible study, facilitated by Pastor Cheryl, is Thursdays at 1 p.m. at Evergreen, and we're studying the Gospel of John. Pastor Julie will teach adult Sunday school at Evergreen at 9:45 a.m. All are welcome to come grow in their faith journey.

On Sunday, April 29, at 4 p.m. the two churches will have an ice cream social at Evergreen, and share with one another each church's "story."

Meanwhile, Aldersgate will continue on April 15 and 22 to worship at 4 p.m. at Extraordinary Ventures. As always, everyone is welcome, and we mean that.

God is doing a new thing; come and see!

Aldersgate is giving 100 percent of our February offerings to TABLE, Inc. (https://www.tablenc.org/), whose mission is "to provide healthy, emergency food aid every week to hungry children living in Chapel Hill and Carrboro." We raised $3,205! She will tell us about the good work that TABLE does. Join us!
